8th grade Medical Detectives – Mrs. King
In the Medical Detectives course through Project Lead The Way (PLTW), students take on the role of medical investigators to solve real-world health mysteries. They will delve into the Disease Detectives unit, where they analyze testing results and diagnose diseases. In the Smart Signals unit, students explore the complexities of the nervous system and how it communicates within the body. Additionally, the course covers epidemiology, where students study the patterns, causes, and effects of health and disease conditions in defined populations. This engaging curriculum fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills through hands-on, real-world scenarios.
7th grade Design and Modeling – Mr. Poehner
In the 7th grade Design and Modeling class students acquire knowledge and skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and innovation as well as explore STEM careers. In this foundation unit, students begin to recognize the value of an engineering notebook using sketching techniques to document and capture their ideas. They are introduced to and use the design process to solve problems and understand the influence that creative and innovative design has on our lives. Students use industry standard 3-D modeling software to create a virtual image of their designs and produce prototype models to showcase their creative solutions to real life consumer needs.
7th grade – App Creators – Mr. Campbell
App Creator is a semester class. While in this class, students will use App Inventor which is a web-based program created by MIT. The students will learn how to use block coding to create apps that can be downloaded to android devices.
