Below you will find guidance if you test positive or exhibit covid symptoms as well as guidance for exposures to a positive case.

We are not requiring masks unless it is for a positive case or exposure as explained below. Students, staff, and family members are welcome to wear a mask on the Edgewood Campuses and buses.

Update March 2, 2022 - Due to the recent decline in COVID-19 cases affecting the Edgewood City School District, we will no longer be posting daily/weekly updates on our website effective March 3, 2022. We will continue to report cases to the Butler County General Health District and the Ohio Department of Health as required. Thank you for the support and understanding you have shown throughout this pandemic and the educational challenges it has created.

Edgewood Mask Update - March 1, 2022

Edgewood City School District has been fortunate to have seen a significant decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in our school and within the county. As a result of that data and the new CDC guidance, beginning March 2, 2022, all Edgewood City School District students, staff, and visitors will no longer be required to wear face masks while riding the bus. Face masks are still optional inside Edgewood City Schools. Any student, staff member, or visitor who wishes to wear a face mask in school or on the bus may continue to do so.

Edgewood will post updates regarding the number of COVID-19 cases and a number of students and staff isolated or quarantined if known. This information will be posted in the link on the left side of this page. Data will be updated as new information is reported to our district.

Dear Edgewood Families,

Edgewood City School District is committed to the care and safety of all of our students. With that in mind, we want to reiterate some information already shared and provide you with some new information that may assist you as we all navigate back to school while adhering to district safety protocols, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Ohio Department of Health (ODH), and Butler County General Health District (BCGHD) recommendations.

A Reminder:

Edgewood City School District is returning to in-person learning at this time.

Masks are required on all buses.

Masks are highly recommended for students and staff at school.

We will continue to clean and disinfect priority areas regularly and consistently cleaning high-touch surfaces.

We will continue to quarantine/isolate students based on positive COVID cases and exposures.

We will social distance when possible within the space provided in our buildings and encourage frequent hand washing.

You will receive notification from your building principal if your child is quarantined and the quarantine time will be based on CDC, ODH, and BCGHD guidelines.

Hand sanitizer stations will continue to be located throughout all of our buildings.

We ask that you:

Monitor your child for symptoms at home.

Notify your child’s school nurse if your child has COVID, symptoms of COVID, or has been exposed to COVID in the home or the community.

Encourage healthy habits such as handwashing, sneezing or coughing into elbows, and proper mask-wearing when/if masked.

On the link below you find the guidance from the Ohio Department of Health that applies to ODH Quarantine Guidelines that the Edgewood City School District will be following. The link applies to in-classroom exposures; it does not apply to exposures at home, in the community, extracurricular, or sports environment. Those situations may require a quarantine based on CDC guidelines. The language distinguishing between vaccinated and unvaccinated students and staff is only applicable until October 1, 2021, and additional guidance will be provided at that time. Letter from Mr. Russ Fussnecker: New Reporting Requirements Regarding COVID-19 Cases in K-12 Schools

September 7, 2020

To our Edgewood Parents, Guardians, and Staff,

On Friday, September 4, the Director of the Ohio Department of Health issued new orders to K-12 schools. This order contains information for parents, guardians of students and school staff members regarding how to report a positive COVID-19 diagnosis to their district. This action will assist Edgewood in performing timely contact tracing and prevent further transmission of COVID-19. Likewise, the new order outlined the reporting and communication requirements for school districts.

We want to share the details of this order with our families and staff members. This order goes into effect on Tuesday, September 8.

Notifying the School if a Student or Staff Member is Diagnosed with COVID-19

Edgewood parents/guardians of students as well as school staff members who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, whether by laboratory test or through clinical examination, are encouraged to notify the school no later than 24 hours after receiving a confirmed diagnosis.

Steps Required for Parents and Guardians:

Edgewood parents/guardians should call their student’s school nurse. If news of the diagnosis is learned over a weekend, parents/guardians are to leave a message on the school nurse’s office phone and send an email.

Steps Required for School Staff:

Call your building principal or supervisor to report your diagnosis. If news of a diagnosis is learned over the weekend, email your principal/supervisor.

Communication Requirements from Edgewood to Parents/Guardians, Staff, and the Butler County General Health District

Within 24 hours of becoming aware of a student, teacher, staff member, or coach who has tested positive or been diagnosed with COVID-19, Edgewood will take action to notify affected parents/guardians of students and staff of the existence of the case and will share as much information as possible, without disclosing the individual’s name or any protected health information. Here are the steps that will be taken:
- Written notification will be sent via email to the parents/guardians of all students who share a classroom space or have participated in a school activity during the COVID-19 infectious period of a student, teacher, staff member, or coach.
- Written notification will also be provided, via email, to all parents/guardians of students in the affected school building notifying them of a positive test result. Staff members in the affected building will also be notified via email. Edgewood is required to provide this notification for each case, although the district is permitted to consolidate notifications, if necessary.
- Information will be posted on our district’s website to inform the families, students, and staff members in the other unaffected school buildings of the number of COVID-19 cases and number of students and staff isolated or quarantined, if known. This information will be posted under COVID-19 Updates on our website (www.edgewoodschools.com).
- Within 24 hours of becoming aware of a student, teacher, staff member, or coach who tests positive or is diagnosed with COVID-19, Edgewood will report the case(s) to the Butler County General Health District (BCGHD).
- Starting September 15, BCGHD will report the number of newly reported and cumulative positive tests or diagnosed COVID-19 cases from our district along with all other districts in Butler County. This information will be from the previous reporting week, as applicable. The information will be sent to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) every Tuesday.
- The ODH will publish aggregate weekly and cumulative case data by school district. This information will be published every Thursday and will be posted on coronavirus.ohio.gov

I sincerely appreciate our parents, guardians, and school staff members for notifying Edgewood no later than 24 hours after receiving a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19. Your timeliness in reporting this information about your student (or for yourself, if you are a school staff member) will assist our district in performing the necessary contact tracing and notifying the affected individuals. By working together, we will ensure we are keeping everyone informed and safe.

There has been a great deal of information given regarding the Coronavirus Disease, COVID-19. We have created this web page in an effort to inform our parents, community, students, and staff on how the school is responding to this public health concern. The safety of our students and staff has always been and will always be our top priority and we continue to do our part to prevent the spread of illness in our schools.

May 21 is the last day of school for our students. This has been a year that none of us will ever forget! We miss our Cougars and look forward to when we will be together again. Report Card Distribution Plan:

Edgewood Early Childhood Center- report cards will be mailed to the student's home on Tuesday, May 26.

Changes to Use of Athletic Facilities for Skills Training:

Governor DeWine announced on May 21, that changes to the order signed by Dr. Amy Acton, the Director of the Department of Health, has been amended to allow school districts to determine the usage of school athletic facilities for skills training. The OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletics Association) is providing additional information and guidance to assist schools in making these changes.
Edgewood will communicate more information in the upcoming days regarding these changes. Our goal is to ensure all appropriate measures are taken to ensure a safe environment for all our athletes, coaches, and staff. Your patience is appreciated.

Open Enrollment Reminder:

Open Enrollment applications for the 2020-2021 school year are now being accepted through Friday, June 26.
If your child attended Edgewood as an open enrolled student, this school year, and they plan on attending Edgewood for the 2020-2021 school year, parents must reapply for Open Enrollment.

ATHLETIC FACILITIES AND PLAYGROUNDS REMAIN CLOSED

Per Governor DeWine and the OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association), the No Contact rule is in place through the end of June 2020. To stay in compliance, Edgewood cannot have any organized training sessions, as a program, until we are given permission from the Governor. As a result, all facilities on the Edgewood campus remain closed to athletes and community members.

Our Edgewood City Schools playgrounds remain closed until at least May 29, per the Stay Safe Order issued from the Ohio Department of Health.

Meal Pickup Program to Continue through the End of this School Year:
- Gov. DeWine announced Monday, April 20 that schools will remain closed for the rest of this school year (2019-2020).
- Our district has made plans to continue our Meal Pickup Program through the end of our school year. Meals will be provided for students, ages 1-18, every Monday and Wednesday through May 20.

Results from the WLWT Channel 5 “Day of Giving” Event:
- Thursday, April 23, Edgewood City Schools participated in WLWT’s Day of Giving event to help students and families in our community.
- We designated Edgewood Ministerial Association to receive 100% of the donations.
- The EMA and Edgewood wish to express our sincerest thanks to those who gave during the event.
- The EMA received over 150 donations exceeding $2500! These donations will help many students and families in our community through the EMA Food Pantry, Backpack Program, and the Local Emergency Assistance Fund (L.E.A.F).
Change to Work Permit Requirements for Students:
- The State of Ohio has temporarily suspended the requirement for schools needing to sign/approve Work Permits for students. This suspension was put into effect during the COVID-19 health crisis.
- All other requirements for completing a Work Permit must still be completed by the student.
- Students needing a copy of their latest physical, in order to complete their Work Permit, will need to contact their building principal via email for assistance.
UPDATE: Schools to Remain Closed for the Rest of the 2019-2020 School Year (Posted: 4/20/2020)
On April 20, 2020, Governor Mike DeWine made an announcement ordering all of Ohio’s public, community, and private K-12 school buildings to be closed to students for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic school year due to the coronavirus health crisis.
We know the Governor’s order to close school for the rest of the school year presents a challenge to our families. Our district is working diligently to partner with you in furthering your child’s education and well-being.

Remote Learning to Continue
Although our school buildings are to remain closed, remote learning will continue through the remainder of the school year. We will continue to adjust and administer our remote learning plans and expectations, provide student services and resources to the best of our ability, and distribute free meals to our students.

Staff Availability
Our school staff will continue to provide meals, support, and provide remote learning opportunities to our students for the rest of the school year. Our teachers and principals will be available Monday-Friday, via email, to support our parents and students. Teachers and building principals will continue to share their remote learning plans and expectations with parents and students on an ongoing basis until the last day of school for students, May 21st. For those students who do not have access to online learning, hard copies of assignments, by grade level, will continue to be available weekly. A schedule of when copies can be picked up will be communicated each Friday, via email, for the upcoming week.

Administrators and support staff will also be working remotely and are available through email and voicemail.

Our Board of Education Office will remain open from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Meal Distribution
Food service operations are ongoing despite the building closure and will remain in place through the last week of school. Staff will continue to comply with the most current health guidelines when distributing meals. Details regarding our meal pickup dates and times will be emailed to our families weekly and reminders will be communicated through our district’s social media pages and mobile app.
During the summer, the Trenton branch of the MidPointe Library will be hosting a Summer Lunch Program. Details are being finalized by the library. Information about the library’s program will be communicated later in May. Please look for this information on our district’s website, social media pages, mobile app, and via email once we receive final details from the library.

Services to Students with Disabilities
The Special Education Department will continue to make weekly contacts and work with families in an effort to provide as much continuity of services as we are able at this time. Please continue to reach out to your child’s Intervention Specialist and/or Related Service Provider with any additional questions or concerns.

Preschool, Kindergarten and Open Enrollment Registration for 2020-2021
Plans for Preschool and Kindergarten registration are still being finalized. Once details are complete, information will be communicated through our district’s website, social media pages, mobile app, and email. In the meantime, if you have questions about Preschool or Kindergarten registration, please email patti.bowers@edgewoodschools.net
If your student is currently open enrolled at Edgewood, you will be contacted via email by our Central Registration Office, to inquire if you wish to enroll your student for the 2020-2021 school year. Emails will be sent to those parents during the last week of April (April 27- May 1). Students not currently enrolled at Edgewood, but are considering Open Enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year, will be able to request an application by emailing patti.bowers@edgewoodschools.net. Board Meetings
Boards of Education are required by law to meet at least once every two months. Although school boards typically meet more regularly than this, school boards may legally cancel school board meetings and reduce the number of school board meetings to the statutory minimum.
Our next Board of Education meeting will take place on Monday, April 27, 2020. Dates and times for future board meetings are posted on our district’s website as well as posted in the local newspaper.

Access to School Facilities/Grounds
Per the Governor’s orders and OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association), all school, playgrounds, and athletic facilities, including courts, gyms, fields, gyms, and weight rooms, are to remain closed. The use of our facilities by outside groups has also been suspended until further notice.
We are making arrangements for staff and students to retrieve their belongings from classrooms and lockers. Once details are finalized we will communicate directions via email to our families and staff.

Scheduled Spring/Summer Events
All athletics (per OHSAA guidance), field trips, overnight trips, performances, and award programs have been canceled through the remainder of the school year.

Graduation
The Governor and the Ohio General Assembly enacted House Bill 197 to address issues raised by the coronavirus pandemic. This legislation states that Ohio students who were on track to graduate at the time of the ordered school-building closure will be permitted to graduate on time in the Spring of 2020.
We recognize the importance and tradition of our high school graduation ceremony. Our graduation was originally planned to take place on Wednesday, May 20. Unfortunately, we will not be able to hold our commencement service on this date. We are looking at alternate dates for later this summer, but we are dependent on the governor’s orders for when large public gatherings can take place.

Summer School
With the current building closure orders, the district will offer summer school classes virtually until further notice. Students who require summer school classes will be notified by the building principal. We are still discussing summer enrichment classes for our students and will communicate these plans with our parents in the upcoming weeks.

Summer Sports Camps/Programs
Under the current guidelines, no sport camps or summer programs will be hosted by the school district this summer. We will follow the latest directives when determining the status of summer conditioning programs for our student-athletes. Look for communication from our athletic director and coaches about summer conditioning.

Status of 2020-2021 School Year
No specific decisions have been made at this time on the status of our buildings being re-opened in August. The state continues to monitor the status of the COVID-19 outbreak and our ability to resume normal activities.
In his press briefings, Governor DeWine has made it clear that Ohio’s schools and businesses will not be operating in the same way until there is a vaccine available for COVID-19. Our district administrators started planning and consulting with other education leaders and public health officials for alternatives to comply with the Governor’s most-current orders and maintain a healthy environment for staff and students.

Work Permits for Minors
Work permits must be completed by the parent and employer. A physician’s signature is required on the application or a sport physical on file with the athletic department dated within the last year. Take the completed application to the Edgewood Board of Education Office with proof of age (birth certificate, driver’s license or state ID). The student must be present to sign two completed copies. Ohio Primary Election: Take Action Now to Vote by Mail
- As you are aware, the Ohio Primary election has been extended to April 28. Voting will only take place through the absentee ballot process. There will NOT be any in-person voting, except for those with disabilities or cannot vote by mail. (These individuals should contact the Board of Elections for assistance).
- Take action now to obtain an absentee ballot. To start this process, you will need to request and complete an application, either online or by phone, from the Board of Elections. Once the application is completed and mailed back to the Board of Elections, a ballot will be mailed to you.

What does this mean for graduation?
For seniors who were on track for graduation as of March 13 (this was the last day of school prior to school closing), the graduation requirement of achieving a passing score on the EOC (End of Class) assessments is waived. If your child is on track for graduation, this lack of testing will not keep them from graduating. If a student was at risk of not meeting graduation requirements prior to March 13, our high school counselors and/or administrators will reach out to you to devise a plan to help your child work towards completion of any necessary requirements. Regarding the Commencement ceremony for our seniors, our high school administrators have been in contact with Miami University and continue to be in discussion about graduation. It is a matter of waiting on guidance from the State regarding if and when large groups will be permitted to gather.

- Ohio Primary Election Extended to April 28 & Voting by Mail Only
  - Governor Mike DeWine signed legislation today, Friday, March 27, to allow votes to be submitted by mail (e.g. absentee ballot) for the Ohio Primary election. The election has been extended to Tuesday, April 28. Voting will only take place through the absentee ballot process. There will not be any in-person voting for the Ohio Primary election on Tuesday, April 28.

As announced by Gov. DeWine, the “Stay At Home” order, issued by Dr. Amy Acton, the Director of the Ohio Health Department, goes into effect at 11:59 pm tonight, March 23. Within the “Stay At Home” order, schools are permitted to be open, but with limited access in order to perform the ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS defined in the order. Providing meals to our students is considered one of the essential functions. Our next meal pickup, for students, ages 1-18, is Wednesday, March 25 from 11 am - Noon at our three elementary schools. Another essential function is facilitating distance learning. For students who do not have access to Wi-Fi and/or laptops or computers, paper copies of assignments will be available to pickup on Wednesday, March 25 at these locations:

Dear Edgewood families and staff,
In an effort to provide information, we have created the following FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). It will be updated with any new information coming from the national, state, and local levels. This information will be posted on our website as well as emailed to all our families and staff when updates are made.
How long will Edgewood City Schools be closed?
- Per the recommendation of Gov. DeWine, Superintendent Russ Fussnecker, and the Edgewood School Board, Edgewood City Schools are closed from Monday, March 16 through Monday, April 13, 2020, which encompasses our planned Spring Break (April 6-13). At this time, school will resume on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, unless the shutdown is extended by the government. If that occurs, we will notify you through our normal communication channels.
Under this recommendation, Edgewood City Schools has made the following decisions until further notice:
- All district activities have been cancelled from March 16- April 13. This includes: athletics/sports (including the use of school facilities, weight rooms, fields, gyms, etc…), practices, games, enrichment, performances, PTO and community group meetings, informational meetings and registration for Kindergarten and Preschool for the 2020-2021 school year, sports banquets, fundraisers, field trips, etc.
- In addition, the 8th Grade Washington D.C. trip, scheduled May 13-16, 2020, has been cancelled and the Band Boosters “Spring Fling” Craft Show, on April 18, has been cancelled.
- The Board of Education Office is open from 8:00 am- 12:00 pm, Monday-Friday.
- The Central Registration Office is closed.
What about outside groups using our schools?
- All external rentals/usage have been cancelled until further notice.
How is Edgewood City Schools making decisions?
- We continue to monitor and follow the guidance from the Butler County General Health District, Ohio Department of Health, the Emergency Management Agency, the Ohio Department of Education, and the Centers for Disease Control. We also have a great partnership with the Public Safety Director from the Butler County Educational Service Center, Katharine Clayton. Katharine is working closely with our district and all these agencies to keep Edgewood informed as decisions are made.
Will meals be provided for students while school is closed?
- Yes. Plans are being finalized on how breakfast and lunch will be provided to our students in need. Details will be communicated before the end of this week.
What is the district’s plan for providing continuous learning to students?
- The district has made the decision to implement the following plan, effective immediately, to ensure our students are able to continue their education while school is closed:
  - Teachers will be providing daily instruction and work assignments to their students in each subject area taught. The instruction and assignments will be designed to provide meaningful exposure to the grade-level curriculum that picks up where classes left off last week.
  - Teachers may make the assignments available to students through any district-approved method, and will communicate instructions to parents and students about how assignments may be accessed. Paper copies of assignments will be created for students who have limited or no access to the Internet. Details regarding how paper copies can be obtained by students/parents will be provided by your student’s teacher.
  - Teachers will be available by email to answer questions or concerns from parents or students.
How will students with special needs be supported while school is closed?
- Our Special Education staff has been working with Lindsay White, Director of Special Services, and building principals to continue with special education services and supports during this time, where possible.
- Meetings will be convened remotely to comply with timelines and state operating standards. Additional information will be provided as things continue to change.
How will student attendance be tracked during this closure?
- From March 16-April 13, students do not need to do anything specific to be counted present for attendance. Since this closure is state mandated, we would encourage you to follow Governor DeWine’s guidelines and stay home as much as possible, and when necessary to go out, please practice physical distancing (stay 6 feet apart from anyone outside of your family).
Will testing still take place when school resumes?
- At this time, Edgewood has not received any updates specific to state testing, AIR testing, AP testing, etc. If any updates are provided by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) we will update this FAQ and will share the information with you.
What is the plan for the levy that was to be voted on today, March 17?
- Our levy will remain on the ballot. At this time, Governor DeWine and the Ohio Secretary of State, Frank LaRose, are proposing June 2, 2020 as the date for when elections will take place. In the meantime, if voters would prefer to vote by mail, they have until Tuesday, May 26, 2020 to request a vote-by-mail ballot from the Board of Elections. Update: Friday, March 13, 2020
Friday, March 13 is the last day of school for Edgewood until Tuesday, April 14, when classes are scheduled to resume. We wanted to share the following information with our families and staff:
- At this time, Edgewood is still within the state minimum guidelines for the required number of hours of instruction time. Therefore, no delivery of instruction will take place from March 16-April 14. If the timeframe is extended for how long schools are to remain closed, we will notify students, families, and staff with our plans.
- Plans are being evaluated on how meals will be provided to students in need. More information will be shared in the coming days.
- A deep cleaning of all school facilities and buses will take place prior to students and staff returning to school.
- As stated yesterday, March 12 in our communication, no activities or events will take place during this time at Edgewood. The only exception is the Butler County Board of Elections will operate a polling site in the Edgewood Middle School in Cougar Lobby on March 17.
- Our Central Registration Office will be closed from March 16-April 14. Individuals who have scheduled appointments during this period are being contacted, including those who have scheduled appointments for Kindergarten registration. As stated in our communication on March 12, the informational meetings, scheduled on Tuesday, March 17, and registration for Kindergarten and Preschool for the 2020-2021 school year will be rescheduled. Communications will be issued through social media, website, email, and mobile app when a new date is confirmed.
- The Edgewood Board Office will be open Monday - Friday from 8:00 am - Noon from March 16- April 14.
Please continue your efforts to cut down on the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) by using these key preventive measures:
- Handwashing is extremely important in the prevention of illness. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; if you are unable to use soap and water, hand sanitizers that include 60%-95% alcohol are recommended. Here is a great video to watch with your young children about hand washing.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth since that is how germs get into the body.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you don’t have a tissue, then cough/sneeze into your elbow.
- If you, or your child, are sick, stay home. If you/child have a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater, remain home until you/child are fever-free for a full 24-hours before returning to work.
- Clean frequently-touched surfaces and objects using everyday household disinfectants. High-touch surfaces like door knobs, toilet handles, and sink handles should be cleaned more often.
We realize families, students, and staff members may have travel plans with the upcoming Spring Break. Please keep informed by referring to the travel information provided by the CDC as well as referring to the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) about Travel provided by the CDC.

Update: Thursday, March 12, 2020
Together, we are facing an unprecedented health crisis in our community. In our response to Coronavirus (COVID-19), we must depend on the knowledge of the Butler County General Health District, Ohio Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control as well as our elected officials. On Thursday, March 12, Governor Mike DeWine announced that the state is closing all K-12 schools.
All Edgewood City Schools will be closed starting Monday, March 16 until Tuesday, April 14. This necessary action is an effective public health strategy to disrupt widespread infection.
Effective immediately, Thursday, March 12, ALL district activities are cancelled until further notice. This includes: athletics/sports, practices, games, enrichment, performances, PTO and community group meetings, spaghetti dinner, sports banquets, fundraisers, field trips, etc.
The informational meetings, scheduled on Tuesday, March 17, and registration for Kindergarten and Preschool for the 2020-2021 school year will be rescheduled. Communications will be issued through social media, website, email, and mobile app when a new date is confirmed.
The Butler County Board of Elections will operate a polling site in the Edgewood Middle School in Cougar Lobby on March 17.

If your child has medication dispensed from our school nurse, please pick-up your child's medication before the end of the school day on Friday, March 13, if it will be needed from Monday, March 16 - Tuesday, April 14.

Update: Tuesday, March 10, 2020
The following information is being shared with our Edgewood families on how our district would provide continuous learning for our students in the event Edgewood would be closed for an extended period of time. The following plans would be activated to ensure our students are able to continue their education.
The Ohio Department of Education requires public schools, joint vocational schools, and chartered nonpublic schools to be open for instruction for a minimum of:
- 455 hours for students in half-day kindergarten;
- 910 hours for students in full-day kindergarten through Grade 6; and
- 1,001 hours for students in Grades 7-12.
Edgewood submitted the following hours for the 2019-2020 school year to the Ohio Department of Education:
- Grades K-6
  - 176 planned days at 6.33 hours per day (1114.08 hours)
- Grades 7-11
  - 176 planned days at 6.25 hours per day (1100 hours)
- Grade 12
  - 173 planned days at 6.25 hours per day (1081.25 )
Edgewood planned for additional hours for the 2019-2020 school year. This action is taken each year to cover events, such as inclement weather, natural hazards, utility outages as well as medical outbreaks. Since the beginning of the school year through March 10, 2020, Edgewood has been closed a total of 15.5 hours due to a variety of events. Although additional hours remain, if Edgewood would need to implement continuous learning at home, the guidance provided to our students could include, but not be limited to the elements listed below:
- Grade K-5
  - The use of online formats, such as Brain-POP Jr., SeeSaw, Google Classroom, etc.. to develop lessons and assignments.
  - Dojo or other forms of digital communication would be used to send links to the class assignments to parents.
  - Students would complete assignments and may submit their assignment online, using available technology from their home or local library depending upon the subject and/or teacher.
- Grades 6-12
  - The use of online formats such as Google Classroom to communicate assignments to students.
  - Students would complete and submit assignments through Google Classroom or the designated online format, using available technology from their home or local library depending upon the course and/or teacher.
- Virtual Academy and E-Labs
  - Online learning is already in place and would continue as normal for any students enrolled in these programs.
Assignments will vary according to the grade level and needs of our students. Where applicable, modifications to accommodate student needs will be provided.

Update: Monday, March 9, 2020
On Monday afternoon, March 9, Governor DeWine announced that three cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) have been confirmed in Ohio. All three of these cases are individuals in their 50s from Cuyahoga County, which is located in and around Cleveland, Ohio. At this time, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is working to identify and speak with all those who may have come in close contact with these three individuals. Governor DeWine also issued a state of emergency and stated “people shouldn’t read too much into that. An emergency lets the state sign contracts without bidding.”
Here’s what Edgewood City School District is planning to do:
- Edgewood City Schools will continue on our normal schedule and bus transportation will continue to be provided to all our current routes. We will continue to stay in contact with the Butler County General Health District should more information become available.
- If circumstances dictate, we will institute our next level of cleaning protocols, which include shifting staff assignments to increase the number of people available for cleaning, increasing the frequency of cleaning of all common area surfaces, and instituting additional disinfection of buses.
- We will also continue to provide updates to you as information updates are provided by our local, state, and federal health department partners.
What can you do?
We encourage everyone to do their part in reducing the likelihood of an outbreak. The best ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 continues to be the same preventions that are recommended for the spread of the flu and common cold, which includes:
- Handwashing is extremely important in the prevention of illness. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; if you are unable to use soap and water, hand sanitizers that include 60%-95% alcohol are recommended. - Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth since that is how germs get into the body.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you don’t have a tissue, then cough/sneeze into your elbow.
- If you, or your child, are sick, stay home. If you/child have a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater, remain home until you/child are fever-free for a full 24-hours before returning to school or work.
- Clean frequently-touched surfaces and objects using everyday household disinfectants. High-touch surfaces like door knobs, toilet handles, and sink handles should be cleaned more often.

- The Ohio Department of Health has established a COVID-19 Hotline at 1-833-4-ASK-ODH (1-833-427-5634).
- The Call Center is open 7 days a week from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. The Call Center staff includes licensed nurses and infectious disease experts. They will be available to answer questions and provide accurate information about COVID-19, the risk to the public, and the state’s response.

The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff are top priorities.
With the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) making headlines, our district wants to make sure to reinforce preventive safety measures and to offer additional information.
It is important to remember at the time of this posting, March 6, there are no cases in Ohio. Our district is closely monitoring the situation and taking guidance from the Butler County General Health District, Ohio Department of Health, and the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The symptoms of COVID-19 that may appear 2-14 days after exposure are similar to that of the flu; fever and cough. One additional symptom that is present in COVID-19 is shortness of breath. The virus spreads primarily the same way the common cold or flu spreads—through respiratory droplets that are produced when someone coughs or sneezes.
