Ava Fulks, a 2nd grader in Mrs. Katie Cook’s class at Edgewood Elementary School, is power-house when it comes to fundraising. She is a pledge sister in the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls Buttercup Pledge Group. This is a Masonic youth service organization which teaches leadership training through community service. At 8 years old, Ava has already done a lot for her community. Recently, she created a fundraiser to benefit the Middletown K-9 Unit. Ava went to multiple Masonic lodges and gave presentations to raise funds for her project. In addition, she organized a raffle and a bake sale. Her efforts resulted in raising $789.00 in donations. On September 7, she presented a check to the Middletown Police Department to support the K-9 Program.
Mrs. Cook, Ava’s teacher, said, “I am so proud of Ava and her community work. I hope she will continue to work in our community for years to come.” It’s clear that Ava loves to help others and she is already working on her next fundraiser project. It is to benefit the Cheering For Charity for Alzheimer’s.
