Milford, OH – September 14, 2024 – Edgewood High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) team made a notable impression at the recent Raiders competition held at Great Oaks Career Campus in Milford, Ohio. The event, which drew approximately 15 teams from across the region, tested cadets in a series of rigorous physical and tactical challenges.

The Raiders competition featured three distinct divisions: all-female, co-ed, and all-male. Each division saw formidable teams competing in a variety of demanding tasks designed to push their physical and mental limits. Many participating teams fielded three full squads, adding to the competitive spirit of the event.

Edgewood High School's AFJROTC team, consisting of two female cadets and eight male cadets, competed in the all-male division. Despite the strong field, the Edgewood team showcased impressive skills and teamwork throughout the competition.

The event comprised several grueling challenges. The timed obstacle course required cadets to navigate a series of physical hurdles, while the Gauntlet Challenge took competitors through a trail in the woods, demanding both endurance and problem-solving skills. The Heavy Equipment Maneuverability Challenge tested the team’s strength and coordination as they maneuvered large tires, weighted ammo cans, and heavy poles.

Other notable challenges included the Tire Flipping Challenge, which assessed agility and power, and the Rope Bridge Challenge, demanding balance and teamwork. The final event involved maneuvering a course while carrying medical evacuation equipment, with obstacles including a large mud pit, testing both strategy and resilience.

Edgewood’s AFJROTC team distinguished themselves with a standout performance in the Tire Flipping Challenge, where they secured third place. Their strong showing in this demanding event highlighted their exceptional preparation and determination.

“We are incredibly proud of our cadets,” said MSgt Ron Baker, one of the AFJROTC team’s instructors. “Their dedication, teamwork, and perseverance were evident in every challenge they faced. Competing against such a high caliber of teams and achieving a top-three finish in the Tire Flipping Challenge is a testament to their hard work and commitment. We hope this success inspires more students to join our AFJROTC program and be a part of a culture of excellence and achievement.”

The Edgewood High School AFJROTC team not only represented their school with honor but also made a significant impact on their community. Their performance at the Raiders event underscores the strength and spirit of the Edgewood program.
