Tuesday's Tip!
Did you know…..
In 1970, the Edgewood City School District was formed. Since that time, the Edgewood Board of Education has been the five-member board whose members are elected to represent the community to ensure appropriate organizational performance within the school district.
The board appoints a superintendent and treasurer of schools and works closely with these individuals to drive the mission, goals, and objectives of Edgewood City Schools.
Some of the duties and responsibilities of the board are the following:
Adopt board policies as needed and required to govern the district.
Through the recommendation of the superintendent, approve the employment of staff, renewal, non-renewal, and termination of staff, salary schedules, course of study, curriculum, selection of textbooks, and other matters that impact our schools.
Adoption of annual appropriation measures.
Exercise its taxing power to provide funds for the operation of the district.
Play a key role in adopting and driving the district's strategic plan.
Board members are elected at large to serve a four-year term. Each member is elected on staggering terms. The current board make-up is three members on one term and two on another. Officers are elected by their fellow board members and serve one-year terms. There are no term limits for board members.

Tuesday’s Tip! from Human Resources
Volunteering
Did you know that the benefits of volunteering can be enormous? Volunteering offers help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community. Research shows that the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer. Giving to others can protect your mental and physical health, reduce stress, fight depression, keep your mind sharp, and provide a sense of purpose.
By giving back to the community, you show our children firsthand how volunteering makes a difference and how good it feels to help others.
The Edgewood City Schools has more than 750 vetted volunteers who give their time and talent to mentor and support the district's students. Because of our volunteers, the lives of our students are enriched and opportunities are available that wouldn’t otherwise be available to our students. If you have questions regarding volunteering at the Edgewood City Schools, please contact your child’s teacher or the building principal to discuss volunteering opportunities.
If you would like to complete a background check to volunteer, please click on the link below to schedule a time for a background check at the Edgewood Board of Education office, 3500 Busenbark Road. There is a $22.00 charge for background checks and the fee can be paid with cash, or a credit/debit card. Background checks are good for two years.
